A Confederate raid on St. Albans, Vermont, led by Lieutenant Bennett H. Young, neted the raiders some $208,000 from the town's three banks. The raiders attempted unsuccessfully to burn the town, then rode off to the Canadian border, where they were arrested. They were subsequently released.
