WARS - Revolutionary War - Battle of Long Island

1776

In the Battle of Long Island, New York, American forces commanded by General Israel Putnam and General John Sullivan were defeated by the British under General Sir William Howe and General Sir Henry Clinton. Howe took General Sullivan prisoner. On August 30 the Americans evacuated Long Island and crossed to Manhattan.
